On February 21, 2024, Change Healthcare, a healthcare technology company that is part of Optum and owned by UnitedHealth Group, experienced a cyberattack that has impacted its network and operations. The cyberattack has affected BHS providers’ ability to submit claims via electronic means. To protect our members and providers, BHS severed connectivity with Change Healthcare immediately upon news of the incident. BHS has remained fully operational, and no data was impacted by this incident.
On March 18, 2024, Change Healthcare began releasing medical claims preparation software, an important step in the resumption of services. This will be made available to thousands of customers over several days. Following this initial phase, remaining services restoration will continue through ongoing phases of activation until all customers have been connected.
Optum has notified BHS that providers can submit claims electronically to BHS utilizing Optum iEDI clearinghouse. To learn about transitioning to iEDI, work with your client manager directly. If you don’t have a client manager, email Client Services for assistance at the following email address: client_assistance@optum.com.
BHS is actively researching additional clearinghouses to offer in the future. We will continue to offer Change Health as a resource, once the software is operational and we reestablish connectivity.
